NOTE FROM THE ARTIST
I’ve always been fascinated by how the shifting perception of women shows up in the stories we tell. Across time, women move from being revered in many cultures for our divine ability to create life, to being blamed in the story of Eve (Adam was a grown man and could’ve made his own food choices; don’t blame your wife!), to being boxed into the roles of “the fair sex” or considered “less than.” Then comes the sexual revolution, and suddenly some men feel threatened because they believe “women don’t need men.” Every era brings a new lens, and the stories from that moment in history reflect exactly how women were seen.
Then there are the individual stories - the ones layered with resilience, hope, love, and often sacrifice. Stop any woman on the street and ask her to tell you her story; you’ll hear emotion, compassion, and an extraordinary depth of lived experience. Ask a woman what femininity means to her, and the answers will be as varied as the women themselves - from tender and vulnerable to powerful and absolutely unstoppable.
I believe art has the power to inspire change because we only care when we feel something, not when we simply know it. Art makes you feel. That’s why I use my work as a catalyst for change and collaborate with environmental and humanitarian organizations committed to real impact.
Thresh taps into one of the oldest forms of communication and wisdom-sharing: storytelling. And there’s nothing more human, more connective, or more transformative than a story truly told and truly heard.
