100 YEARS OF GREATER LEBANON

To mark the centenary of the foundation of Greater Lebanon (September 1st 2020), the Alwan Project has collected 100 stories from elders from across the country, telling the story of their life experiences: their struggles and their successes—often against daunting odds. The stories have been recorded by young people (aged 15-17), working with the Alwan Project to record and document the oral histories of elder citizens from across the entire social and geographical spectrum.

Thresh has worked with the Alwan Project to develop short digital performances of selected stories. In many cases stories come from individuals in marginalized communities whose experiences have seldom if ever been heard previously by the wider public. Three examples are below.

Each story is the result of cross-cultural collaboration between performers, musicians, composers and visual artists from Lebanon, the USA and around the world. In addition to the performance videos, we also provide "behind the scenes" clips where performers, artists and musicians discuss the process of collaboration.

MEET ARTISTIC DIRECTOR PREETI VASUDEVAN

This project is the brainchild of Preeti Vasudevan, Artistic Director of Thresh. We sat down with Preeti towards the end of the project to ask her some questions about the process of putting the project together. Below you'll find five short clips in which Preeti answers questions covering both the production process and her creative approach.

Click or tap the videos below to launch the clips (there are five in total).
