SCOTT KUGLE is a research scholar in comparative religion and Islamic studies at Emory University in the Department of Middle Eastern and South Asian Studies. His research focuses on Sufism in South Asia and on Islamic notions of gender and sexuality. His latest book, When Sun Meets Moon, is about gender and spirituality in Urdu mystical poetry written in the late 18th and early 19th centuries in Hyderabad (focusing on the poets Siraj Awrangabadi and Mah Laqa Bai Chanda); it will be published in fall 2015 form University of North Carolina Press.
